The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has destooled the Paramount Chief of Kenyase No. 2, Odeneho Dadeako Nana Kwabena Nsia Ababio.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the Asanteman Traditional Council held on July 27, 2026.

Nana Kwabena Nsia Ababio is reported to have been the longest-reigning paramount chief in Asanteman. He had reportedly spent about 89 years on the stool before the Asantehene brought his reign to an end.

Otumfuo said Nana Kwabena Nsia Ababio did not have the authority to create the position.

The Asantehene also questioned why the chief would create such a position when he had previously served as a courtier at the house of Hyiawohemaa.

He explained that the chief’s service had contributed to the creation of Kenyase No. 2 and that he was later made the chief.

The Asantehene also stated that the land occupied by the Kenyase No. 2 traditional area belongs to the Kenyasehene.

Viral Video Shows Asantehene Speaking Strongly

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

In the video, the Asantehene is seen speaking strongly to Nana Kwabena Nsia Ababio and criticising the actions of the chief and his family.

Otumfuo also spoke about a woman whom Nana Kwabena Nsia Ababio had introduced to him as his mother.

According to the Asantehene, he had instructed the chief to take care of the woman. However, Otumfuo said the chief’s actions had caused serious problems for his entire family.

The Asantehene said:

“I warned you several times. Now look at the outcome. You created Hyiawohene in your area. What right do you have to do that? You were a courtier at Hyiawohemaa’s house, so how can you create that position? Through your service, Kenyase No. 2 was created, and you were made the chief. The land you occupy belongs to Kenyasehene.

“You introduced her to me as your mother, and I charged you to take care of her. You have ruined your entire family. Not one wise person has come from the family now. I know all your ploys. All along, I counselled you about these ill acts, but violating Asante traditions cannot be spared. Your reign ends now,” the king said.

Asantehene Says Warnings Were Ignored

The comments from the Asantehene suggest that the issues involving the Kenyase No. 2 paramount chief had been discussed before the final decision was made.

Otumfuo said he had warned and advised Nana Kwabena Nsia Ababio several times about what he described as wrong actions.

However, according to the Asantehene, the warnings did not lead to the changes he expected.

The king said the continued violation of Asante traditions could not be allowed to continue. He therefore announced that the chief’s reign had come to an end.

Nearly All Kingmakers Also Destooled
