Chairman Wontumi was living in fool’s paradise, I saw his end coming – Akwasi Addai Odike
Founder and Leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Akwasi Addai Odike, has criticised the leadership style of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
Odike said he had concerns about Wontumi’s approach to leadership from the time he became the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP.
Speaking in an interview on Okay FM monitored by Myroyalfm.com, the UPP leader said he believed Wontumi’s style of leadership would eventually lead to problems.
Odike Raises Concerns About Wontumi
According to Odike, he was not surprised by the difficulties Wontumi is currently facing because he had previously expressed concerns about how the NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman conducted himself.
He said that when he first heard that Wontumi had been chosen to lead the NPP in the Ashanti Region, he immediately felt that the decision might not be good for the party.
“I think many Ghanaians can be hypocritical. The first time I heard Chairman Wontumi had become the Ashanti Regional Chairman, I felt it would not help the NPP. From the way he acted and led, I believed things would not end well for him”, Odike said.
Odike explained that, in his view, the way a person behaves while holding a position of power can have a major effect on their future.
He suggested that political leaders should always be careful about how they use their positions because power comes with responsibility.
Leadership Should Be About Service
The UPP leader also shared his views on what he believes good leadership should look like.
According to him, people who are given positions of authority should use their power to help others and improve the lives of the people they lead.
He said leaders should not use their positions to frighten people, threaten them or make others feel less important.
“If you have power, don’t use it to threaten people or show off. Use it to help others and make their lives better. A good leader serves the people instead of intimidating them. I don’t think Chairman Wontumi did that. He seemed to believe nothing could go wrong, but I felt his downfall was coming,” he added.
Odike Calls for Humility in Leadership
Odike’s comments also focused on the importance of humility among people who hold political and public positions.
He argued that leaders must remember that positions of power do not last forever. For this reason, he believes those in leadership should treat others with respect and use their authority carefully.
His comments come at a time when Chairman Wontumi has faced serious legal challenges.
Wontumi, who is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, has been involved in legal proceedings over allegations linked to illegal mining and other matters. His legal troubles have also attracted public discussion about his political career and leadership.
